SIBA Campus staged the drama “Sanda KInduru” on 28th July 2017 in Hindu Cultural Hall, Kandy. Written in English and produced with a blend of Sri Lankan, American theatre and Digital technology, this project carried a blissful purpose of presenting the vision of Buddhism to the international platform.
“Sanda Kinduru” was a fruitful result of an experimental project carried out by the Department of English of SIBA with a of Fulbright scholar from USA. The drama was directed by Fulbright Prof. Daryl Harris, Professor of Performance Art at Northern Kentucky University, USA and his team, with limited advisory of a reputed expert in theatre, Mr. Jananath Bandara. An added vibrance to the drama was brought on by the expertise music direction of Mr. Darshana Bodhikotuwa, and with the mastery make up of Mr. R.S Perera. The credit goes to Ms Buddhi Ariyaratne who worked on the script to keep to the intrinsic innate message of the ‘Samasaric’ benevolent love between the Gauthama Sidharatha and Yosodara of the Sandakinduru Buddhist Jathaka tail and also to ensure the digital backgrounds, music and lighting is well blended. The English Drama based on a Jathaka Story with a blend of Sri Lankan and American theatre and blending with digital technology is the dream of Dr. Upali Sedere, the Rector of the Sri Lankan Buddhist academy. It is the generous and untiring efforts by all academic of the English Department and the backing by the non-academic staff of SIBA Campus made this possible.
The event was a perfect reflection of SIBA Campus undergraduates’ abilities which are not limited only to the scope of the academics. The humongous success of this aesthetical fiesta was evident by the overwhelmingly positive remarks and comments given by the audience.
