Overview

The vision of the Department of Postgraduate Studies is to be an excellent center for Buddhist Studies to provide Buddhist theoretical and practical knowledge for the intellectual and for the moral and spiritual development of humankind.
The mission of the department is to produce scholars who have deep knowledge in Buddha- Dhamma through study, research, practice and experience with a sound knowledge in comparative religion, fields of humanities and social sciences.
Department of Postgraduate Studies was established in 2012 with the aim of being the topmost Theravada Buddhist Higher Educational Center affiliation to Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University of Thailand.

Medium of the Degree is English language only. Every Student must pass the Pali Language as a requirement.
Admission Requirements
The applicants should have the following qualifications to be eligible to enroll for PhD Degree:

  • Candidate must have a Master’s Degree preferably in Buddhist Studies. However, those who have the Master’s degree or Higher Post-graduate qualification showing interest of earning a PhD in Buddhist Studies could be enrolled subject to certain pre-requisites and clearly demonstrated interest in Buddhist studies.
  • Must be willing to satisfy all course requirements including the learning of Pali Usage.
  • Higher command in English Language must be demonstrated as all SIBA Postgraduate Degrees.

Admission Requirements
  • A four year bachelor’s degree from a recognized or an accredited tertiary institution, with a minimum GPA of 2.75 (out of 4). Preference will be given to those students who hold a degree majoring in Buddhist Studies, Buddhist Psychology, Buddhist Culture, Pali Studies, Religious Studies or Indian Philosophy
  • A Three year Bachelor’s degree or any first Degree in other fields with GPA 3.00 or above, with other relevant educational qualifications such as Diploma in Buddhist Studies, Diploma in Pali, Oriental Intermediary or final, etc.
  • The applicant whose primary language is not English or whose first degree is not done in English should sit for a proficiency test conducted by SIBA and based on the results the applicant will be asked to enroll and follow if necessary an English course at SIBA concurrently or prior to the commencement of the M.A. teaching programme.
